Sustainability

A sustainability charter has been developed for Bath Quays North with the aim of providing a holistic approach to sustainability within the development, design and operation.

The charter includes:

  • Physical: Building the future – A development that kick starts innovation through a baseline that is futureproofed for emerging technologies and policies.
  • Social: Creating local opportunities – Utilise the spaces between buildings and landscape to provide a range of spaces for human interaction and to support local events. Create opportunities, apprenticeships and connections within and beyond the city.

The development will establish a new business address for Bath, providing flexible, modern office space alongside contemporary riverside living and welcoming spaces for all to enjoy.

Designs will incorporate principles to deliver a safe, active and social destination supporting the health and wellbeing of the community.

Bath Quays North aspires to:

  • Incorporate design principles to deliver external spaces that supports and encourages active lifestyles.
  • Prioritise mental health support for all employees associated with the design, construction and operation.
  • Connect the city to the river with sociable, south facing terraces creating opportunities for a variety of activities and events by the river.
  • Provide a space for future generations of employees, residents and visitors to enjoy.
  • Provide a healthy environment for residents, workers and visitors.
  • Create a positive and relaxing space to rest and meet up before dispersing to the Riverside or city.

Skills and Training

The scheme aims to support the local business community, employers and employees, by providing employment and education opportunities, during and after construction.
It will be purpose-built to function for business and the people of Bath – attracting innovative companies, residents, high quality food & beverage retailers and visitors.

Bath Quays North aspires to:

  • Create 10 placements and work experience opportunities for local students.
  • Maintain at least one local independent business as a retail tenant.
  • Offer STEM workshops with local primary and secondary schools throughout the programme.
  • Provide up to 1,500 new employment opportunities to local individuals in industries including the professional sector, sustainability sector, construction trades and hospitality and retail.
  • Consider investment in local sustainability community and infrastructure schemes.
  • Assist with business rate generation within Bath and the wider South West.
